Dear Diary- here’s what I truly think will be IN and OUT for 2025
Junk journaling, imperfect crafts & letting people like things
- letting people like things (goes without saying)
- using Instagram as an art diary (IG is an art form if you want it to be! And I’m seeing more and more people scribbling on their photos, sharing works in progress, using IG dumps as a visual journal of sorts again. It’s giving Tumblr, it’s giving Pinterest, I love it)
- reading real books
- junk journaling (there are no rules!! If this just means slapping some stickers and things you like on a page, just enjoy! Don’t overthink it)
- sending snail mail (because how cute is getting something hand written from your friend across the world?!)
Enable 3rd party cookies or use another browser
- actually using your stickers (beautiful things are meant to be enjoyed- don’t save them for a special occasion, today is the special occasion)
- imperfect craft projects that AI could never replicate (I honestly think the fact that AI cannot replicate human imperfection is exactly why we are leaning so hard into mixed media, hand crafted art at the moment - it’s more valuable to us than ever)
- handmade jewelry (again- handmade > machine)
- vintage watches and keepsake lockets (for the sentimental souls!)
- Sofia Coppola themed parties (think: Marie Antoinette themed tea party, omg )
- buying print media (print is SO not dead, and supporting independent print media is very cool!)
- rewearing things (consumerism doesnt feel so bad if that $400 cardigan actually becomes a wardrobe staple)
- customising and personalising your own clothing with badges, patches, embroidery (no, not purchasing pre-embellished clothing by high end brands who are just repackaging an aesthetic that should be personal and intentional)
- nail stickers (90s babies know)
- Polaroids (obsessed with Ryan’s photography)
- miniature dollhouses/anything miniature (in a BIGGGGG way, already seeing so many brands hopping onto this)
2025 OUTS:
- being a hater
No, but seriously- so many of these lists are lowkey hating on peoples tastes and what they enjoy. As a wise follower (fanlady_notgurl) just commented ‘don’t yuck someone’s yum’!!
Just because it’s not for you, doesnt mean it’s not for them. Let people like things!
Xoxo
